audition success

Auditions can be so much fun. Definitely not all of them, yet. :) But yesterday- I feel like I had a great audition. I felt totally open, listened, and didn't rush. Something about it felt so...mine.

The story itself is full of turmoil, discoveries, being lost, being found- perfect for me. I love taking on scripts like this. I love the characters. And I really loved the juxtaposition of religion with sinful beings. The dialogue was really well thought out and kept me wanting more. I almost wished I could have auditioned all night.

And now the callback....I'll keep you posted....

Steel Magnolias at the Gresham Little Theatre

Alright, I know it is out in the middle of nowhere, but this show is so worth it! I will be playing Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie, a role I have always dreamed of having. And the rest of the cast is just splendid. I highly recommend going. Show dates are Fridays and Saturdays in May, from the 1-16th.

For anyone who isn't familiar with the show:

The close-knit women at Truvy's Beauty Salon, the unofficial hub of Chinquapin La., have lots of time to gossip. Their husbands - - absent, depressed, or dead - - have made sure of that. Consequently, visitors to the salon get more than a wash and cut.
The wise-cracking Truvy, with the help of her new glamour technician Annelle, dispenses shampoo with liberal doses of free advice and gossip to the town's curmedgeon, Ouiser; an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, and the local town social worker, M'Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby, is on the verge of marriage.
Alternately hilarious and touching, the play focuses on the comaderie of these six Southern women who talk, gab, gossip, chitchat, needle and harangue each other through the best of times - - and cry, caress, comfort and repair one another through the worst. They're soul mates in a rarefied way that assumes a cult of femininity - - sisters come hell and high water. Pushing laughter and pain together, Steel Magnolias pulls tears from even the most cynical eyes.
The women at Truvy's beauty parlour are the steel magnolias of the title: Southern belles, flowery on the outside, but strong enough inside to survive any challenge, many of which are presented through the course of the narrative.

Woohooo!

Wow, haven't been here in forever and a day! I'll have to keep updating. Been getting some more work lately, which is great. Experiencing some of the frustrations I'm sure other actors experience as well. Jealousy being at the top of the list. It's such a natural emotion, yet one I would like to extinguish! Really there's no point in it. However, I have found that when I start to feel it coming, rather than letting it fester, I take all that energy and put it into marketing. It is the best use of energy I have ever found! I highly recommend it. I get more auditions and meet more people- yay! So, speaking of marketing, I should get back to it. :)

Psycho Beach Party Opens

We had a great opening night. The crowd laughed a lot, everyone gave their all, and we had a blast. Jennifer (she plays Berdine) and I couldn't stop talking about how much fun we had. There was even a moment when Berdine forgot that she had another scene before intermission. She remembered suddenly and came running down the hallway like a bat out of hell. Her costume flying off her leaving the wake look like a yard sale. The look on her face was priceless. She, of course, still had plenty of time. But we thought it was pretty funny.

I feel so lucky to be in this play with such a lovely cast. I have learned a lot and look forward to the rest of our run. I think this play is just like wine, gets better with age!

GPS THE MOVIE - fun suspense/thriller based on gps scavenger hunts

Thought I would do a little shameless self promotion for some friends. :)

I saw this great film in Seattle recently. I thought it was really well done and got to meet the Director and producers after; good people! I'm sure some of you have heard of it before, but their DVD is coming out March 31., I thought I might do a little promotion for them- I was really impressed with their work. Psycho Beach Party

Imagine Gidget crossed with The Three Faces of Eve and Mommie Dearest. Chicklet, a perky teenager in Malibu Beach circa 1962, wants to learn to surf and join a group of beach bums led by the great Kanaka. Unfortunately, she suffers from a multiple personality disorder. Seeing red causes her to transform into various other selves, including a sinister vamp out to conquer the world. Complications arise when a movie starlet flees the set of her latest rotten movie to hide among the surfers. The climax is a wild luau scene where hypnosis reveals the shocking root of Chicklet’s psychosis.

*I'm playing DeeDee and Bettina Barnes (the movie star). :)
